Arthritis scam

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

[RINGMASTER COMMUNITY MESSAGING - SOMERSET EAST - FN017 200213]

Be wary of phone callers targeting the elderly and enquiring if the householder suffers from arthritis. They will offer to visit you and demonstrate something that can help with the pain. A local female resident received such a call recently from a very plausible female caller which was then followed up by a male caller asking if the lady was on her own.

Please decline any visits…

Oil tank security

A message from Neighbourhood Watch - please note there has been a rise in theft of fuel from fuel tanks on properties in the rural community in parts of Somerset.  It is evident that some fuel tanks have not been secured.  Please remind those with fuel tanks to check their security and to report all suspicious activity/vehicles to the police on 101.

Other NW information is under the NW section of the Services tab.

Neighbourhood Watch - break ins

There have been two recent incidents in Hadspen and Castle  Cary where sheds/garages/outbuildings have been broken into. The thieves are  working at night and are using a jemmy and bolt cutters to force doors and cut  padlocks. It would appear that they are looking for  power and garden tools and  other portable items that they can then sell on for cash. Please review your shed/garage security, especially if you are in a remote location, and ensure good quality padlocks and hasps are fitted.…

Bell ringing outing

On Friday 9th November, we had our third bell ringing outing.  We visited three different churches (South Cadbury, Maperton and Horsington) which while they were all 6 bell ground floor rings, were all rather different bells to ring.  Moving to a strange tower can be difficult but we achieved good standard of ringing in all three towers; including one where the bells were half muffled in preparation for Remembrance Sunday.  Half muffling sounds very good but the demands on the…
