National Adoption Week - Time For a Story

Best-selling authors and famous local people are backing Somerset County Council’s campaign to recruit more adopters during National Adoption Week (4-10 November 2013).

Terry Pratchett and Sir Ranulph Fiennes are among those who have backed the ‘Time for a Story’ campaign by sharing their favourite memory of reading a children’s story with a loved one.

Sharing a great children’s book can create some of the most magical moments of both childhood and parenting. The ‘Time for… Continue

Neighbourhood Watch

Several members have expressed concern about a young man (describing himself as having been a ‘bad boy’) trying to sell plastic goods door to door towards the end of last week.  There were several inconsistencies in his story and details of his name and van have been reported to the police.  The police have said they will get back to me.

In the meantime, you should take extra care over security.

Bracken Bashing at Moldrams Ground

On Wednesday 4th, our group of volunteers, with the expert assistance from Orin our new junior member, had a very enjoyable morning bracken bashing at the reserve. It was a beautiful morning and we started at the top entrance and worked our way down through the reserve. By the time we had finished, almost the whole reserve had been completed. Bracken can easily take over a site and breaking the main stem is a good way to reduce its strength so it is less prolific the following year. We are…

Footpaths over the County border

We've added a great resource, thanks to Bernard. takes you to maps of the area beyond Pen Selwood so you can find your way in Dorset and Wiltshire. It doesn't include all of the paths in Pen, but you can display it as a Street map. Cycle map or Ordnance survey map.

You'll find a link under Countryside > Footpaths down the bottom of the page when you need it next.

Pen Selwood Horse & Dog Show

The second Sunday in August is a special date for local riders and dog owners. The Pen Selwood Horse & Dog Show was a great success this year. We were blessed with a lovely day, not too warm or too cold.

The entries were up on last year, particularly for the dogs.

2013 fete - preliminary results

The preliminary estimate of takings for yesterday is a magnificent £4,381; it is really good to have raised so much for the Church, the Hall and the Field, despite the untimely downpour.  A really big thank you to all those who worked so hard to achieve this and to all those who came and spent the money.

All claims for expenses or any other income to me as soon as maybe please
