Highways Winter Update 8.30am 23 Jan 2013
Rain preceding the snow yesterday afternoon meant we could not pretreat the network and had to wait for the snow to start to fall. Any salt put down in advance would have just washed off the highway. The timing could not have been worse as the heavy snow arrived at rush hour as people were trying to get home and as they got into difficulty it hampered the gritters…

There have been two recent incidents in Hadspen and Castle Cary where sheds/garages/outbuildings have been broken into. The thieves are working at night and are using a jemmy and bolt cutters to force doors and cut padlocks. It would appear that they are looking for power and garden tools and other portable items that they can then sell on for cash. Please review your shed/garage security, especially if you are in a remote location, and ensure good quality padlocks and hasps are fitted.…

On Friday 9th November, we had our third bell ringing outing. We visited three different churches (South Cadbury, Maperton and Horsington) which while they were all 6 bell ground floor rings, were all rather different bells to ring. Moving to a strange tower can be difficult but we achieved good standard of ringing in all three towers; including one where the bells were half muffled in preparation for Remembrance Sunday.
