“The odds will always favour the man with a plan,” so said the well respected Lebanese born American financier Ziad Abdelnour. Here is our hopeful plan to defeat the odds and to hold the village Fete this year.

Firstly the date. We have chosen Saturday 21st August, two weeks later than usual but before the Bank Holiday weekend. It gives us extra planning time, 9 weeks from the magic date of 21st June.

The Government’s recently announced roadmap out of lockdown will guide us. In particular, Stage4oftheplansaysthatnoearlierthan21st June,

All legal limits on social contact will be removed

No legal limits on the number of people who can attend weddings, funerals and other life events. From April, the Government will run pilots for events such as large weddings, festivals and work conferences. This will help to determine how measures such as enhanced testing might allow large groups to attend without social distancing

We will work within the Government guidelines (including social distancing, mask-wearing and copious hand gel) and others as they become known to ensure we can run a safe event for everyone. It is understandable that some people will be nervous and will not want to get involved. However, please can each of you consider if there is a way you can support us without compromising your concerns. If we are unable to enrol the requisite support and enthusiasm, the event will not happen.

Detailed planning will get underway from 21st June. An initial list of stalls and activities we have in mind are,

Coconut shy
BBQ
Crêpe
Pen Pub
Produce Stall
Plate Smashing Stall (Get rid of old crockery, glassware and frustration)
Putting competition
Traditional games
Bottles
Books
Ice Creams
Prizegiving for virtual & on the day competitions Grand Raffle
Teas ( arranged outdoors)
White elephant (with a queueing system to maintain social distancing) The photography and produce show to be displayed in a tent/marquee

Preloved Clothing we think will be challenging to manage, but please tell us if we are wrong.

At the beginning of June, we will begin telephoning previous stallholders to get things moving. In the meantime, please let us have your feedback.
