Since lockdown there has been a big increase in people walking around the village and there have been incidents of people straying off the footpaths onto private land. This has been particularly noticeable on Pen House land off Underhill, including one sighting of people on bikes riding around the lake in the garden.  We would ask everyone to stay on the footpaths, which are well marked, through fields and across land and where there are gates on the path to make sure you shut them behind you.

Horse boxes and bike racks are now permitted to gain access for permit holders in the Stourhead woods.

Not just arriving on foot!  I meet ladies walking in the woods who turned out to be Nordic Walkers from Shaftesbury looking for a change of footpath last week and yesterday I saw someone bringing their horse in by horse box along Pen Ridge.

I don’t blame folk for wanting to go further a field - especially when we have the whole of England permissible!

With all the Bourton & Zeals townies free to walk further afield we are also now experiencing dog fouling all over our footpaths so take extra care where you tread.
