Hi all

I am forwarding this because of the information at the end (highlighted) about how to obtain timely advice on flood warnings.  The website is easy to use; the 'phone line requires considerable patience.

Due to the current exceptional weather conditions there are some areas that may be subject of flooding across Somerset.  It is advisable to check conditions before travelling - your local radio station is a good source of information.

Road closures may be put in place (and in some instances already have been) to assist with free flow of traffic around any effected areas.  If you have to travel through the area where diversions have been lifted please drive carefully as there may still be debris on the highway.

If you know of any neighbours who may have been or could be effected by the floods you may wish to contact them, so they can take necessary precautions and action if flooding occurs in your vicinity.

PLEASE CALL THE FLOODLINE ON 0845 988 1188 FOR UP-TO-DATE FLOODING INFORMATION AND ALSO YOUR LOCAL RADIO STATION, WEATHER WEBSITES ETC.

THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY WEBSITE CONTAINS DETAILS OF RIVER LEVEL AND FLOODING INFORMATION AND CAN BE ACCESSED AT WWW.ENVIRONMENT-AGENCY.GOV.UK.

PLEASE REPORT ANY FLOODING IN YOUR AREA TO YOUR LOCAL ENVIRONMENT AGENCY OFFICE.

This message is sent to members of all schemes with a seasonal warning regarding vehicle crime.  There is often an increase in vehicle crime at this time of year and we are sorry to inform you that it appears this trend has already started.

There have been reports of shopping being stolen from vehicles, one or two instances of Christmas presents stolen; reports of vehicles being left insecure and/or with items on display such as handbags, mobile phones, MP3 players and even laptops. Even a tax disc stolen from a motor cycle in the past week.

Some instances of vehicles being stolen as well - one of the latest occurred in Ilminster when the victim left a set of keys in the works vehicle, went to speak to another workman and then saw the vehicle being driven off.  There was also a white Volvo V70 in the vicinity at the time of the office - officers would be keen to have any information on a vehicle of this description acting suspiciously and think this vehicle could be anywhere across the county.

Vehicles can be viewed as shop windows, so:
* Don't leave any items on display
* Lock doors, windows and set any security device
* Don't leave keys in the car even for a short time
* Whether at home or work keep keys out of sight.

The NHW office stocks items such as tamper proof tax disc holders and vehicle watch stickers - contact Lindsey for order form on 01823-363348 or click `reply' to this message.

Local officers would like you to be aware of
an increase in breaks to sheds, garages and outbuildings recently.  Since the
beginning of July numbers of incidents are as follows:

Castle Cary - 5
shed breaks
Ilchester - 5 shed breaks
Tower area - 4 shed
breaks
Blackmoor Vale - a commercial break and a theft from a hay
barn

Items stolen from these properties vary from garden equipment and
tools, to quad bikes, mowers, trailers, and power tools.

Please remember
to ensure that all such property is secured and locked into sheds, garages and
outbuildings wherever possible.  Marking tools and equipment is of benefit and
can be crucial in returning property to its rightful owner.

The NHW
office has advice leaflets available on request (contact Lindsey on
01823-363348).  For more detailed advice on security measures you can contact
your local PCSO or the local Crime Reduction officer by contacting the 101
number.

3 Aug - Vehicle sighting

Rural properties, businesses and farms should be on the lookout for a green T registration Subaru Forester that has been very active in our area recently. It may be associated with the theft of quad bikes. We have also had reports of a blue Rover estate with a registration similar to R413MON which has also been visiting farms in the Wincanton policing area. If either of these vehicles are seen or any other vehicles are seen acting in a suspicious manner, please contact the police using 999 if you believe that a theft is occurring or 101 if the incident happened in the past.

16 July Break-in
Overnight of 14-15 July a break-in occurred at a property at Charlton Musgrove.  Offender(s) cut a padlock that led into an entrance gate.  A further padlock was forced off of a store room where power tools were stored.  However the only item stolen was an Ifor Williams Trailer from the adjacent yard.

Overnight of 14-15 July a break occurred at an outbuilding at a property in South Browham.  A ride-on mower was stolen.
