I've been made aware of a new publication which looks at fourteen archaeological mysteries/controversies arising out of fakes or misrepresentations over the period 1830s-1930s.
One of the chapters is devoted entirely to Pen Pits. It focusses on the row between Winwood and Kerslake and is an important turning point in…

St Michaels Church Christmas coffee morning, held last Saturday, raised a total of £550.
Many thanks to the helpers and to everyone who braved the weather and gave so generously.

For those of you who bought a village calendar and have turned to December: You may have noticed a Gremlin got into the printing and jumbled the dates again!
Here is a replacement sheet to print out. Dec dates
Apologies.

St Michael’s is having services of worship most Sundays now (and you will find the details in the events column). The arrangements are (approximately 1st, 2nd and 3rd Sunday at 9am and 4th Sunday at 6:30 or 4:00, with a 5th Sunday combined service in either Pen Selwood or Wincanton). Occasionally things will vary so do look at the diary of events on this site. If you visit the church for worship or for private prayer…

Hi, if anyone has seen 3 hens, (they have disappeared from The Croft on Chapel lane), please can you let us know. We have a white one, a black one and a brownish one with white speckles. They are quite independent and often potter up the lane and along the verges but always come home - except they didn't return on Monday evening and we haven't seen them since. Thanks, Helen

A huge “Thank you” from St Michael’s Church to everyone who so generously contributed to our Harvest event on Sunday, from decorating the church, setting up, providing food, cooking, serving, eating, or just plain spending money, and then clearing away at the end. It was an enormous success and of course we must not forget the blessing of perfect weather too.
We raised £293.37 from church, auction and gift aid donations which will be donated to the Royal Agricultural…

Final preparations are underway for Pen Selwood’s 66th Traditional Fete this Saturday afternoon. Everything is organised and run by the villagers themselves, apart from the provision of the free entertainment for the children who attend ~ this year the chance to try as many different Circus Skills as they wish.
This year, Fete visitors will find the Pen Teas in a marquee located behind the Village Hall in the Churchyard. This is to provide better ventilation and spacing to keep…
