The Community Field was established for the benefit of the parish, it is situated in one of the most beautiful locations of the village with far reaching views across Somerset and Dorset. Picnic tables and benches are provided together with a tarmac car parking area which serves as an overflow car park for the Church and Village Hall.
The Community Field Management Committee is responsible for the provision of all facilities and for all aspects of safety – any damage or repairs needed should be reported to Andrew Jenkins, Tel: 01747 840773.
The Community Field, an area of approximately 1.1 acres, was purchased in November 1992 with private donations raised from within the parish.
In July 1993 a double swing with safety flooring was installed along with moveable goal posts.
The official opening of the field was on July 24th 1993 –Sports day!
On August 1st 1995 the Community Field was granted charitable status by the Charity Commission.
In July 2001 following a survey involving village children and parents it was decided that a larger play area should be developed – a ‘toddler’ swing, climbing frame with slide and an activity trail were subsequently installed. All necessary funding was obtained from private donations, grants and lottery funding. It was subsequently renamed the Bryan Young Community Field.
On 31/12/22 the BYCF Charity merged with the Pen Selwood Community Association a Charitable Incorporated Organisation registered Charity number 1186930 and ownership of and responsibility for the safe future management of the Field rests with its committee.
