Fake Heritage - solving mysteries

I've been made aware of a new publication which looks at fourteen archaeological mysteries/controversies arising out of fakes or misrepresentations over the period 1830s-1930s.

One of the chapters is devoted entirely to Pen Pits. It focusses on the row between Winwood and Kerslake and is an important turning point in archaeology because a scientifically conducted excavation pulled the rug out from under a wholly conjectural claim.

The remaining chapters examine a variety of mysteries including inscribed stones at Yarrow, Greek coins found in Exeter, and the Piltdown Man hoax.

The book is available as a paperback and as an ebook from Amazon.
