Bogus phone calls

This message is sent to all areas with a warning about bogus telephone calls. A number of incidents have occurred over recent days where unsolicited telephone calls have been made to members of the public. These calls allege to be from a security company and the suggestion is that the police are aware of crime prevention surveys taking place by the company in the area. The caller asks to make an appointment to view the property to give a crime prevention survey whilst they are in the area. …

If you look on the Pen Selwood web site you will find suggested walks with a clear map which you can print, the mileage of each walk is also shown. "State of Nature" and Moldrams Ground Nature Reserve

The latest report called "State of Nature" from 25 wildlife and conservation organisations makes very worrying reading. It shows very clearly that wildlife reserves, valuable as they are, are incapable of saving our wildlife, much of which is now under severe threat. Even one of our national wildlife icons, the Hedgehog is now under threat of extinction in the UK and it is likely that our grandchildren will never see one. Wouldn't it be good if every parish would pro-actively encourage…

Wood for Sale at Moldrams LNR

The rangers have been at Moldrams Ground LNR today strimming the paths and moving logs. There is now a big pile of logs near the bottom gate that are for sale. They are not seasoned, cut or split but they are cheap! Approx £20 for a normal car boot load. All proceeds go back into the maintenance budget for Moldrams. If you are interested please contact the rangers by calling 01935 462462 and ask for Rachael Whaites in countryside

Successful Newt Survey at Moldrams Ground

Hello Everyone,
Those of us who met Rachael the reserve ranger and her team on 3rd May were delighted to be witnesses to the most successful survey ever recorded at the reserve. Newts were discovered thriving in all three ponds and at the larger of the two top ponds, the largest number of Great Crested Newts ever recorded were logged, showing a very healthy population exists here.…

Jumble sale

Once again, the Jumble Sale raised a really great sum, £473, which will help keep our churchyard looking so good, badgers permitting. Very many thanks to those who helped make the event today such a success and to all those who came and supported it so well.

Litter

This morning I walked my dogs through the village, between Underhill and Long Lane I picked up over 30 bottles which were strewn along the roadside.  I appreciate that some may have been blown out of the recycling  vehicle but not all and especially not along Long Lane.

I have lived in the village for nearly four years and I have noticed that the litter problem is getting worse.  Litter I know is a problem everywhere but Pen Selwood is our bit of England let us all try and keep it…
