Queen Elizabeth II 21st April 1926 – 8th September 2022

Many tributes have been paid following the sad loss of our longest reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II.

A monarch who was true to the promise she made on her 21st birthday in 1947             “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.”

My parents were the subjects of four monarchs but, like many of you in the village, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was the only monarch we have known. We must now get used to a King as King Charles III continues the work, that I am sure, his mother has prepared him to undertake.

We have heard of her sense of humour, her passion for the Commonwealth, her deep desire for world peace, her love of the United Kingdom and its people, her deep religious beliefs and, of course her overwhelming desire to serve. Still working at the age of 96 and inviting her fifteenth prime minister to form a government two days before her death.

Our thoughts and prayers are with King Charles and the entire Royal Family.

Rest in peace Ma’am.

A book of condolence has been placed in our church of St Michael, Pen Selwood, for anyone to pay tribute to Her Majesty and I thank Rev Alison Way for making this available.

God save the King.
