Please may I have any articles, event notices, reports and any other contributions for the September Pen Paper by August 15th please.
As this edition closely follows the amazing successful Fete we have just had I'm looking forward to some fete reports and, in particular, I would welcome any photographs taken at the fete and/or Flower & Produce Show. The more the merrier. Please attach to an email and send to iansteadman46@outlook.com

Please may I have any articles, event notices, event reports, photographs and any and all other contributions for the June Pen Paper by 15th May please.
This will be the Pen Paper preceding the Village Fete, Flower & Produce Show in August so perfect for promoting these and perhaps, requests from stallholders for stock.
Any new ideas for improving or adding to the Pen Paper are very welcome.

Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks have a power cut Friday 19th April affecting the whole village. They plan to turn power off at 08.30 and should finish by 16.30 if not sooner. You have probably already had a leaflet from SSEN in your mail box. This is in order for contractors to trim/prune trees affecting our overhead cables.
Sadly this means NO BLACK BIN CAFE. The next Black Bin Café will be on Friday 3rd May.

Information has come in quite late but Wessex Water will be in Pen Selwood next week, from Monday 4th March with three crews to fix three leaks. One in Pear Ash Lane, one in Bleak Street, somewhere southeast of the Pear Ash Lane junction, and one in Coombe Street somewhere below the Queens Grove junction. In each case there will be road closures but if you can't get out one way you should be able to get out in the other direction. Works are due to start at 08.30am on Monday and will…

Too late for the Pen Paper just distributed, I am able to report that money was voted at the recent PCA meeting to spend on infrastructure to support the fete and other events on the field. This is in addition to the money raised towards a new tent at the French Evening. A start has now been made with the PCA ordering a tent the same size as the present ‘village tent’, 4m x 8m.
Separately and coincident with this,…

Wessex Water will once again be undertaking work in Combe Street between the 27th and 29th of this month. It is possible that the road may be closed a little east of Queen's grove in which case those east of the closure will have to access via Zeals/Bourton.
For any further information about this closure you can contact Wessex Water on 0345 600 4600, quoting reference: ttro320065S.

Wessex Water have quite a bit of work to do outside no 1 Grove Close which will impact on the Queens Grove footpath and the adjacent parking area.
Work is due to start Monday 26th June and could last two weeks.

Wessex Water plan some mains sewer repair/replacement works on Bayford Hill just over the brow as you drop into Wincanton. Roughly adjacent to the new houses building site.
UK.one.network says road closure and advance notice yellow road closure signs are already out. No indication yet of diversion. I will update if I get more info.

I understand that Wessex Water are back in Pen to fix a domestic water leak just below Queen's grove. Official info and one.network suggest a possible closure there until 25th November. Previous experience suggests it may not be that bad or that long but exercise caution.

I was told about this website (www.travelsomerset.co.uk) at the last Parish Council meeting. It sounded useful so I took a look. This is how they describe it:
This service by Somerset County Council aims to provide reliable and up-to-date information about roads across Somerset to help you make informed choices about your journey.
On this website you will find our map showing current and future roadworks as well as live…

Wessex Water are fixing a couple of leaks in Combe Street. This work should finish Thursday or Friday. Mostly you should be able to get through, but this is not guaranteed.
The road closed sign at the foot of Long Lane can probably be ignored as access to the Combe St/Bleak St junction seems unaffected.
You can use the very useful website one.network to check on roadworks. Just keep zooming in on your place of interest.

6am starts for crews as temperatures soar
Recycling and rubbish collections will start an hour earlier for the rest of this week in response to rising temperatures.
Somerset Waste Partnership (SWP) is asking residents to make sure their waste is ready for collection from 6am putting it out the night before if needed.
Waste collection is hard, physical work and early starts help limit the time crews spend working in the hottest part of the day.
The early starts may…
