On Saturday afternoon, Pen will host the final of the Diocesan six bell striking competition.  Six bands from all over the diocese will compete and we should hear some of the finest ringing for a long time.

The competition will start at 1:45 and take about two hours.

Each band is allowed a two minute timed practice.  After that the treble rings to signal to the judges that they are about to start.  They ring some rounds, a set piece of 120 changes, some more rounds and then stand.  They are marked for the accuracy of their striking.

Please don’t interrupt the ringers in the tower or the judges who will be sitting in the churchyard.  The ringers will be offered light refreshment in the hall and you are welcome to talk to them then.

The results will be announced later in the afternoon in Wincanton Church, where the 8 bell completion is taking place.

The ringing should be really good.
